FRANCE. Polo-form kepi of brigadier general in madder cloth, headband in fine black cloth embroidered with a row of oak leaves, inner cap in daffodil sateen marked by the manufacturer Liand, boulevard de Sébastopol in Paris, brown leather headband. About 1921-1925. ABE (wear of use) This kepi and the following one belonged to brigadier general Jules CHALLEAT. CHALLEAT Jules (1867-1936) was a brilliant artilleryman who published many works on artillery, including the important: "L'artillerie de terre en France pendant un siècle". Technical history (1816-1919). A graduate of the Polytechnique, he spent most of his career as a young officer in the 13th artillery regiment of Vincennes. In 1915, he commanded the divisional artillery of General Mordacq's 120th ID, then the 86th RA. He was appointed brigadier general in 1921 and division general in 1926. He is the theorist of the indirect fire, he was director of the technical section of the artillery in 1917-1918 and director of cabinet of the director of inventions Jules-Louis Breton. He supervised the development of the artillery of the future Maginot Line.
