TABLES. Pierre CARRIER-BELLEUSE (1851-1932). "Portrait du capitaine DELASALLE de la Coloniale", SBG pastel, dated 1917. 44 X 36 cm, framed under glass, gilded wood frame, storage label at the Federal storage company, Washington D.C. BE This portrait comes from the Panthéon de la guerre (between 1914 and 1917), produced in collaboration with Auguste François-Marie Gorguet and with the assistance of some twenty artists. At the time, it was the largest painting in the world, containing almost 5,000 portraits of French and Allied notables and officers. The work was exhibited in a building specially erected to house it, next to the Hôtel des Invalides in Paris, then displayed in the USA at Kansas City's Liberty Memorial, where it was sold off.
