SOUVENIRS. Brown patina bronze table medal bearing the effig - Lot 21
SOUVENIRS. Brown patina bronze table medal bearing the effigy of Sergeant Bobillot 1860-1885, Tuyen Quan, diam. 87 mm, an earthenware plate (Creil-Montereau) from the series "Nos sous-offs 1790-1890 - Sergent Bobillot à Tuyen-Quan" is attached. BE Sergeant Jules Bobillot of the 4th Engineers, hero of Tuyen-Quan, had carried out field works that saved the small garrison. Seriously wounded, he died on March 18, 1885 in Hanoi hospital as a result of his injury. Under his leadership, eleven men were executing an underground work designed to counter the effectiveness of the Chinese army's already advanced works; they came face to face with the enemy, and in hand-to-hand combat he was seriously wounded. This story was widely reported in the press of the time, and streets still bear his name today, notably in Paris.
