UNIFORMES. Set of uniforms belonging to François LEONARDOU, 1st class inspector of the Garde Indochène in Indochina: Helmet type 1886 in cork covered with beige cloth, gold grenade, original tan chinstrap, high-quality hatter's inner cap in fine leather and pink silk, the entire interior of the helmet has been lined with fine light green silk, tunic model 1893 in black cloth with straight collar adorned with gold-embroidered grenade tabs, "fer de lance" braids in gold soutache, infantry officer-type buttons, made by the Union commerciale indochinoise, one pair of breeches (made by La belle jardinière with nominette) and one pair of straight pants (made by Hanoi) of the gendarmerie type in blue cloth with black side stripes, 6 white cotton vareuses and paletots (without buttons), 4 pairs of matching straight pants, 3 removable braids, one model 1882 infantry officer's saber with signed blade from St-Etienne in its carrying case, 5 photos by F. TBE Born in 1870, François LEONARDOU began his career in the Zouaves, then in the Colonial Army, joining the 2nd Tonkinese Rifle Regiment in 1894, then moving to the Civil Guard in Tonkin, where he spent most of his career until 1920, i.e. almost 30 years, finishing as a 1st class inspector. Responsible for maintaining law and order in the province, he was highly regarded by his superiors, and was awarded the Dragon d'Annam, the Colonial Medal, the Order of Cambodia, the Order of the Golden Ear of China and the Legion of Honor.
