BWA, BURKINA FASO. Wood, polychrome pigments. Nwantantay" board mask, it shows the power of "Do" the son of the creator and the founding ancestors of the clan during the sowing and funeral celebrations. It is made of an almost circular face topped by a hook reminiscent of a hornbill's beak and a long rectangular panel ending with a standing figure. The painted drawings describe the tribal tattoos, symbols of the rules that frame and correct moral behaviour and the conduct of life (conf David Baldry, Créer en Afrique, 2éme colloque européen, Paris 1993, p. 51). Around 1950. Height : 139,5 cm. Width: 29 cm. Cracks. Provenance : Collection P. Cachan (Scientific researcher in Overseas France from 1946 to 1965, in Madagascar then in Africa, professor at the faculty of Dakar.
