Sleeping Hermaphrodite. Sculpture in Carrara marble in direct cut. Italy, 19th century period, after the Antique. 10 x 48 x 26 cm Accidents and missing pieces. Nota : This work is taken from the famous antique sculpture from the Roman imperial period discovered in Rome near the Diocletian baths and now kept in the Louvre Museum. As part of the Borghese family's collection, Cardinal Scipio entrusted the sculptor Giovanni Bernini in 1619 with the execution of the mattress on which the antique marble is placed. In 1807, it was acquired by Napoleon I from Camille Borghese to become part of the collections of the Louvre.
