APPLIQUE CARTEL called "with the lion of Nemea", in chased and gilded bronze, decorated with an antique draped urn, frieze of post, Greek fillets, acanthus leaves, seeds, ram heads, fluting, pine cones, the skin and the lion's head suspended around the dial, serrations; acanthus leaves, etc. (slight alterations and wear). Enameled dial indicating the hours in Roman numerals, the minutes in Arabic numerals; original movement with wire suspension, in working condition (with its key and its balance). Louis XVI period. H.80 x W.40 cm. Made after a drawing by Jean-Charles Delafosse (1739-1784) ; Bibliography : - Almost identical cartel reproduced in Pierre Kjellberg, La Pendule Française du Moyen Age au XXe siècle, Paris 1997 (page 191). - A similar example, as well as a drawing by Delafosse, are illustrated in Hans Ottomeyer and Peter Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen - Die Bronzen des Spätbarock und Klassizismus, Munich 1986 (page 182). - A very similar model can be found today in the playroom of Monsieur Thierry de Ville d'Avray, in the Hôtel de la Marine, place de la Concorde in Paris.
