GERMANY. Saber called "SCHLÄGER" for the training of the famous student duels called MENSUR, iron frame, spindle covered with dogfish skin, basket guard with steel arms lined with leather inside, this one itself lined with blue cloth outside, straight blade with double edge and round tip, with logo of WK & Cie of "SOLINGEN". L: 109 cm, blade: 88 cm. Late 19th century. ABE The Mensur, a highly regulated fencing bout that is still practiced today in Germany in student associations, is intended to show one's courage and virtue, sometimes to clear one's honor.
