GERMANY. Saber called "SCHLÄGER" for the training to the famous duels known as MENSUR, iron frame, spindle covered with dogfish skin, enveloping basket guard with steel branches lined with leather and velvet inside, this one itself lined with red and blue cloth outside, straight blade with double edge and round end, blued and chased with scrolls in the first quarter. L: 105 cm, blade: 87 cm. End of XIXth century. ABE The Mensur, a very regulated fencing fight which is still practiced today in Germany in student associations, is intended to show one's courage and virtue, sometimes to clear one's honor. The facial scars it can cause were very popular with students, especially around 1900-1930. GERMANY. Saber called "SCHLÄGER".
