The Noailles family has owned the 1st Company of the Gardes-du-Corps du Roi (Ecossaise) since 1651. At the time this pistol was made, it was owned by Adrien Maurice de Noailles (1678-1766), 3rd Duke of Noailles and Marshal of France. This pistol is of slightly different proportions than the previous one, the hammer has probably been remade, and the St-Etienne hallmark is topped with a fleur-de-lys instead of the usual crown for Pierre Girard. However, the fleur-de-lys appears on older models, such as the 1731 Garde-du-corps pistol made by Barallon-Carrier or Simon Jourjon.
