MONGOLIA - exterior Altai region - Ancient KASAKH : Embroide - Lot 488
MONGOLIA - exterior Altai region - Ancient KASAKH : Embroidered hanging with 9 polychrome medallions and embroidered border of gold fillets on a red background. Dated 1963. 108 x 186 cm. Slight wear, tears at bottom.
These hangings are used to decorate the interior space and reinforce the protection of the yurts of the Altai eagle families against the cold of the winter season.
They are ancient and differ in quality from today's production, made from materials sourced in China.
These hangings are the work of each housewife and are renewed on certain occasions.
Some are dated, while others are deliberately not completely finished, as they were given by the groom's family on the occasion of a wedding. In these cases, it's up to his bride to finish the small unfinished portion.
They are washable, non-fading and can be used to decorate a bedspread, tabletop, sofa or wall.
