CHABAUD Victor Louis Eugène (1855-1933), a student at Saint Cyr, made a career in the cavalry. From January 1900, he was attached "to the person of the President of the Republic", in this case Emile LOUBET, with whom he made an official visit to England in July 1903, aimed at rekindling Franco-British relations and relaunching the Entente Cordiale. It was on this occasion, of course, that he received this honorary distinction. In 1905, he was appointed colonel of the 2nd Cuirassiers, becoming cavalry brigadier general in 1911, a position he would hold throughout the war.
