Henri PLISSON (1908-2002) : Rectangular wall panel in cerami - Lot 20
Henri PLISSON (1908-2002) : Rectangular wall panel in ceramic and fused glass. Mounted on plywood. Signed lower left. 34 x 100 cm (a chip on one corner, wear) Henri Plisson was born in Saint-Gaultier, Indre, in 1908. In Paris, he attended the Académie de Dessin on Boulevard de Clichy and the Académie de Dessin de la Ville de Paris on Boulevard Montparnasse. He then trained as a painter in Lucien Simon's studio at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris. In 1973, he was appointed official painter to the French Navy. Although his early works appear classical, his compositions evolve towards cubist forms. His encounter with Gen Paul and Pierre Lebasque led him not only to ceramics, but also to faceted forms. The artist works with different materials, playing on the sometimes matte and rough, sometimes smooth and shiny, aspect of glass and ceramics.
