TROBRIAND ISLANDS, Aire Massim, Papua New Guinea. Engraved and perforated wood, white lime-based pigment. A superb, antique “Pulata” war club; the upper part of the blade is carved with chevron and interlaced patterns, and its end is perforated to attach fiber decorations. L. 69.5 cm. (minor chips and damage). Provenance: Private collection in Sologne (by inheritance).
