Caroline CHEVALIER (born 1940) - Aix-en-Provence (13). - Lot 109
Caroline CHEVALIER (born 1940) - Aix-en-Provence (13). "Une cité pimpante". Sculpture in chamotte stoneware, highly colored engobes and enamels, small windows, pastilted, sgraffito or black ceramic pencil decorations. Signed, dated and titled below: "Caroline Ch. 2005 Une cité pimpante". H.: 29 - Diam.: 10.5 cm I think there's been a mistake? This work is undoubtedly an interpretation of the "Radiant City" idealized by the artist. Caroline Chevalier completed her training as a ceramist in the early '70s, taking part in workshops such as Elie Barachant (throwing), Elisabeth Joulia (modelling) and Denis Goudenhooft (glazing) in Jumièges. Bibliography: "Potiers et Céramistes de Haute-Normandie 1945-1998. Sceaux et signatures", exhibition catalog at Galerie Complément d'Objet, Rouen, 1999, p.19. Provenance: Denis Goudenhooft collection. Caroline Chevalier's work, playful and colorful, so personal and inspiring, is unfortunately too little known (works in Geneva's Musée Ariana).
