Michel GARDELLE (1949-2025). - Lot 164
Michel GARDELLE (1949-2025). Heeled bowl with four handles in enameled stoneware in shades of gray, beige and red with stylized decoration. Signed. H: 9 - Diam: 27.5 cm. Provenance: Denis Goudenhooft collection. Michel Gardelle had two solo exhibitions at the Galerie Complément d'Objet, Rouen, in 1990 and 1992. But Michel and Denis had spent many evenings before, at the potters' markets they both attended, remaking the world... "Gardelle is a potter, of course, but on the body of his pots appears the paint, the "décor" to use this rather absurd term. A painting in keeping with his initial approach, frank, subtly elementary, powerful. She brings a new sign to pottery, her filiations coming from Africa, the new expressionist painting, art brut, which shows how much her work is rooted in a topicality as yet unfamiliar to potters" (Robert Deblander). (Robert Deblander). Portrait photo by Jean-Marie Tinarrage, in catalog of the exhibition "Michel Gardelle. Céramiques / Peintures", Musée Despiau-Wlérick, Mont-de-Marsan, 1991.
