WHITE WEAPONS. Model 1822 "Donné par le Roi" line cavalry of - Lot 189
WHITE WEAPONS. Model 1822 "Donné par le Roi" line cavalry officer's saber, gilded brass mounting, 4-prong hilt chased with foliage, spindle covered with dogfish skin, twisted brass filigree, curved blade with hollow sides and gutter signed on the back by the Royal Manufactory of Klingenthal, February 1823, hallmarks of controllers Bick and Mouton, engraved in capital letters "Donné par le Roi", 2-ring iron scabbard, modern tie. L: 108.5 cm, blade: 91.5 cm. Pitting on the scabbard. Neither the frame nor the scabbard are signed by Manceaux in Paris, although they were the successful bidder for this contract, so the blade may have been reassembled. ABE From 1822 onwards, the King gave graduates of military schools an engraved saber, for light cavalry or line cavalry, depending on their assignments.
