Set of about twenty multiple-print posters featuring male fa - Lot 315
Set of about twenty multiple-print posters featuring male faces and Arabic calligraphy. 60 x 29.5 cm and 64 x 40 cm. Signs of handling. Provenance: Guy Yves Jacquet Collection (1931–1991) Note: Guy Jacquet’s exhibition “Ciel arabe” (Arab Sky) showcases the scientific work of Arab scholars in the field of astronomy, notably through Abd al-Rahman al-Soufi’s treatise, “The Book of Fixed Stars,” published in 964. Astronomy was a discipline used not only by scholars but also by religious leaders, travelers, cartographers, provincial administrations, and even postal services. Each of these groups consulted astronomers to determine their routes and establish religious calendars. In Middle Eastern countries, houses are open to the sky, and their residents are in direct contact with it, especially on warm, clear summer nights.
