Attributed to Jan I van KESSEL (1626–1679) - Lot 62
Attributed to Jan I van KESSEL (1626–1679) An Interior of a Painter’s Studio Oak panel, single plank, unparqueted Height: 39.5 cm Width: 57.5 cm Provenance: - Paris, Galerie Leegenhoek, in the 1970s; - auction in Paris, Hôtel Drouot, November 26, 1976, lot 3 (attributed to the 17th-century Flemish school) - Auction in Paris, Hôtel Georges V, Tajan Auction House, Paris, June 25, 1996, lot 25 (expert: Eric Turquin, attributed to Jan van Kessel), sold for 320,000 francs. Among the works featured in this exhibition, it is interesting to note that they are all from the Flemish school, with the exception of Adam Elsheimer’s famous composition *Tobias and the Angel*, the original of which is now housed at the Historisches Museum in Frankfurt. To its right, a depiction of a city on fire is likely the work of Daniel van Heil. On the floor, one can recognize an interior scene of a pantry by Frans Snyder; the bouquet of flowers on the easel can be attributed to Jan van Kessel.
