TIBET. - Lot 27
TIBET.
The “Kapala” is a ritual object in Tibetan and Mongolian Buddhism. The practice of making “Kapalas” from human skulls has not been carried out since the 19th century.
This rare “Kapala,” made from the skull of a deified goat, is a ritual object whose symbolism is the same as that of those made from a human skull.
The intricate decoration consists of embossed metal alloy appliqués depicting citipati, scrollwork, vajras, and other symbolic motifs.
61x29x16 cm.
